Unified wired and wireless networks
Cisco Unified Access is a convergence of wired and wireless networks into a physical infrastructure. It provides better intelligence, simplicity, performance and open interfaces. "Unified Networking" requires a Cisco Catalyst 3850 switch that integrates wired and wireless networks by enabling wireless tunneling and full wireless LAN controller functionality.

The Cisco Catalyst 3850 switches now offer the industry's highest stack bandwidth of 480 Gbps to meet network requirements, including Gigabit desktops and 802.11ac wireless. The switch provides high-performance, high-performance 24/48 port GE switches, 480 G stacking, Enhanced Power over Ethernet, StackPower, and Flexible NetFlow on all ports.
Converged wired and wireless access
The Cisco Catalyst 3850 switch introduces Cisco IOS Excellence to wireless networks by extending the capabilities, resiliency, granularity of service (QoS), and scalability of the wired infrastructure. It provides built-in wireless controller functions and 40 G wireless throughput, not only support 50 switches per switch or stack access points and 2000 wireless clients, but also supports 802.11ac.
Distributed intelligent services
The Cisco Catalyst 3850 switches enable common, intelligent services for both security and policy, application visibility and control, network resiliency, intelligence, and other aspects in wired and wireless networks. This switch implements multi-level QoS based on fine information such as SSID, client, radio, application and fair sharing policies of the wireless network.
Cisco opens the foundation for a networked environment
At the heart of the Cisco Catalyst 3850 is a new ASIC that can be programmed for future functionality and intelligence and protects investment. The new ASICs provide the foundation for converged APIs for wired and wireless networks, Software Definition Network (SDN) support, and the Cisco Single Platform Suite (OnePK).
